I've been producing and editing videos, for twelve years now, and in that time, there's been dramatic shifts in the way we tell stories. You can literally film whatever you want with your smartphone, which used to scare me when I first started out. As time went on, and my skills improved, I saw that just having a phone, or a nice camera, didn't necessarily make one proficient with those tools. Sure, there's money to be made with amateur video, YouTube proved that a decade ago, but there's still a world that exists where skills matter. I decided to get Part 107 certified for three reasons: 1. I always wanted to be a pilot. "Technically," I am now. :) 2. I grew up playing video games, and anything with a remote controller, I can figure out in 5 minutes. 3. Drone footage gives a unique perspective to our world. I don't use it with everything, but it is a great tool to have. I love what I do, and I love watching people react to my work. I'm certified to fly and my current bird of choice is the Phantom 4 Pro. Hopefully as time goes on, I can expand my fleet.
